The ceremony of Bodhi Day is held every year on December 8th, marking the day when the Buddha attained enlightenment. Enlightenment refers to attaining awakening and completing the Buddhist path. At the age of thirty-five, Gautama Buddha (Shakyamuni) attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya and became the Buddha. The content of his enlightenment is the “truth of the universe”. Generally, “truth” refers only to truths specific to a particular era or region. However, we should not forget that beyond such truths, there exists a truth transcending time and space—namely, the truth of the universe.
