Shakti

The phenomenal world or (the effulgence of Shakti) contains the quality or reflective ability to self-reveal our essence Being.

In every rising aspect, within all perception, shines an open invitation into the unknown and Self-revealing nature of Being.

Chinmayananda

Forgetting his own Real Nature, which

is all-pervading Consciousness, a person comes to misunderstand himself to be the matter envelopments which are nothing but thought-created encrustations around the Divine in him. Perceiving through the prism of the body, mind and intellect, he sees Truth splashed and splintered into endless plurality and the objects give a delusory enchantment to the senses and the mind. To satisfy these urges of his body and mind, the individual runs after the objects. Such a deluded person, having misunderstood his Real Nature, becomes the 'samsaric' ego-centre, a victim of his own ignorance. This fall of the Self to be the selfish ego is spiritual suicide

Rumi

I am the dust in the sunlight,

I am the ball of the sun I am the mist of morning, the breath of evening I am the spark in the stone, the gleam of gold in the metal The rose and the nightingale drunk with its fragrance. I am the chain of being, the circle of the spheres, The scale of creation, the rise and the fall. I am what is and is not I am the soul in all.

Sir Hugh Walpole

The most wonderful of all things in life, I believe, is the discovery of another human being with whom ones relationship has a glowing depth, beauty, and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing, it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of Divine accident.

Yogananda

To be controlled by moods is to be a part of matter. If you keep your mind on the resolve never to lose your peace, then you can attain godliness. Keep a secret chamber of silence within yourself, where you will not let moods, trials, battles, or inharmony enter. Keep out all hatred, revengefulness, and desires. In this chamber of peace God will visit you.

Amit Kalantri

“Music shouldn’t be just a tune, it should be a touch.”

Eckhart Tolle

The voice in the head tells a story

that the body believes in and reacts to. Those reactions are the emotions. The emotions, in turn, feed energy back to the thoughts that created the emotion in the first place. This is the vicious circle between unexamined thoughts and emotions, giving rise to emotional thinking and emotional story-making

Nisargadatta Maharai

Truth is not a reward for good behavior, nor a prize for passing some tests. It cannot be brought about.

Truth is the primary, the unborn, the ancient source of all that is. You are eligible because you are. You need not merit truth. It is your own. Just stop running away by running after. Stand still, be quiet

Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth

One of our problems today is that we are not well acquainted with the literature of the spirit. We're interested in the news of the day and the problems of the hour. It used to be that the university campus was a kind of hermetically sealed-off area where the news of the day did not impinge upon your attention to the inner life and to the magnificent human heritage we have in our A great tradition--Plato, Confucius, the Buddha, Goethe, and others who speak of the eternal values that have to do with the centering of our lives. When you get to be older, and the concerns of the day have all been attended to, and you turn to the inner life--well, if you don't know where it is or what it is, you'll be sorry.

Jim Dreaver, The Way of Harmony

The core insight involves a subtle shift in the way you see yourself and your life. It is a stepping back, so to speak, and beginning to see that you are not the person you thought you were. Specifically, you are not your "story." The reality you've created inside your head about who you are--your beliefs, personal history, attitudes, identity, and self-image--is not who you are. This internal reality is actually nothing more than a tale you've been telling yourself, probably for most of your life. It's a fiction, a myth, created out of memory and belief, reinforced through the opinions and judgments of others, and clung to mainly through ignorance and habit.

Epictetus

Sickness is a difficulty to the body, but not to the mind – unless you let it. Lameness is a difficulty to the leg, but not to the mind. Say this to yourself with regard to everything that happens, then you will see nothing as a difficulty to your true self.

Emmet Fox

This extraordinary Power, mystic though I have rightly called it, is nevertheless very real, no mere imaginary abstraction, but actually the most practical thing there is. The existence of this Power is already well known to thousands of people in the world today, and has been known to certain enlightened souls for tens of thousands of years. This Power is really no less than the primal Power of Being, and to discover that Power is the Divine birthright of all men. It is your right and your privilege to make your contact with this Power, and to allow it to work through your body, mind, and estate, so that you need no longer grovel upon the ground amid limitations and difficulties, but can soar up on wings like an eagle to the realm of dominion and joy.
But where, it will naturally be asked, is this wonderful, mystic Power to be contacted? Where may we find it? And how is it brought into action? The answer is perfectly simple – This Power is to be found within your own consciousness, the last place that most people would look for it. Right within your own mentality there lies a source of energy stronger than electricity, more potent than high explosive; unlimited and inexhaustible. You only need to make conscious contact with this Power to set it working in your affairs; and all the marvelous results enumerated can be yours. This is the real meaning of such sayings in the Bible as "The Kingdom of God is within you"; and "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all the rest shall be added."

DR. RADHAKRISHNAN

"Hinduism is not just a faith. It is the union of reason and intuition that cannot be defined but is only to be experienced. Evil and error are not ultimate. There is no Hell, for that means there is a place where God is not, and there are sins which exceed his love."

"Hinduism is wholly free from the strange obsession of some faiths that the acceptance of a particular religious metaphysics is necessary for salvation, and non-acceptance thereof is a heinous sin meriting eternal punishment in hell.

MEANING OF THE PHRASE “ATMAN-BRAHMAN”

The Upanishads proclaim that "Atman is Brahman." Atman refers to the ‘individual soul’ of all living things and that which is immortal, unlike the body. Brahman is the supreme soul or the ‘cosmic soul,’ the life source of all that exists in the universe. So, the phrase "Atman is Brahman" wonderfully implies that the individual soul – you and me – are part of the cosmic soul. This is also the basis of Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay entitled ‘Over-Soul’ (1841) and other similar Transcendental writings in Western Literature.

Sri Gawn Tu Fahr

All religions serve a purpose and vary in their teachings. They are all paths, but alas, they are constructs of the mind, destined to perish. Divine Love, the source of all life, resides in every heart, far beyond religion, philosophy, metaphysics, science, art, and the mind itself.

Panache Desai

"When Your Energy vibrates at a frequency that is in direct alignment with what the universe has been attempting to deliver your entire life, you begin to live in the flow and true miracles start to happen."

Robert Adams

Don't let the mind become your master.

Trust in the Current that knows the way. We keep searching outside for answers that lie within. They can only be known in the Silence.

Ramakrishna

Only two kinds of people can attain self-knowledge: those who are not encumbered at all with learning, that is to say, whose minds are not over-crowded with thoughts borrowed from others; and those who, after studying all the scriptures and sciences, have come to realise that they know nothing.

Teresa of Avila

“It is love alone that gives worth to all things.”

“Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul.” “Do not dismayed, at the number of things which you have to consider before setting out on this divine journey, which is the royal road to heaven. By taking this road we gain such precious treasures that it is no wonder if the cost seems to us a high one. The time will come when we shall realize that all we have paid has been nothing at all by comparison with the greatness of our prizes.”’

Dalai Lama

More fundamental than religion is our basic human spirituality. We have a basic human disposition towards love, kindness and affection, irrespective of whether we have a religious framework or not. When we nurture this most basic human resource – when we set about cultivating those basic inner values which we all appreciate in others, then we start to live spiritually.

The Concept of Atman or Eternal Soul in Hinduism

Atman, meaning the breathing one, or the individual Self is one of the most important concepts of Hinduism. It is central to the theme of the Upanishads and the entire Vedic conception of creation and existence.Atman is the immortal aspect of our mortal existence, the individual Self, which is hidden in every object of creation including humans.

Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa

"Those who are established in wisdom (sthita-prajna) live in continuous, unbroken awareness that they are not the perishable body but the Atman. Further, they see the same Self in everyone, for the Atman is universally present in all. Such a one, Krishna says, does not identify with personal desires. These desires are on the surface of personality, and the Self is its very core. The Self-realized man or woman is not motivated by personal desires – in other words, by any desire for kama, personal satisfaction."

Robert Lanza M.D

Philosophers maintain that the future is similarly nothing more than a mental construct, an anticipation, a grouping of thoughts. Because thinking itself occurs strictly in the “now”—where is time?

Does time exist on its own, apart from human concepts that are no more than conveniences for our formulas or for the description of motion and events? In this way, simple logic alone casts doubt on whether there exists anything outside of an “eternal now” that includes the human mind’s tendency to think and daydream. Physicists, for their part, find that all working models for reality—from Newton’s laws and Einstein’s field equations through quantum mechanics—have no need for time. They are all time-symmetrical.

by Swami Krishnananda

Ishvara is the Soul of the universe, the Cosmic Self, the Cosmic Mind, who is the efficient and material cause of the individual minds; the individual has no independent existence apart from Ishvara; God includes in himself both mind and matter. Brahman (the Absolute) is Ishvara divested of cosmic relations, and Ishvara is Brahman in relation to the cosmos"

The Doctrine of the Upanishads

Energy

Our energy and God's energy are the same, ever coming out of the void. We are all beautiful children of God. Each day we should try to see the life energy in trees, birds, animals and people. When we do, we are seeing God in action. The Vedas affirm, "He who knows God as the Life of life, the Eye of the eye, the Ear of the ear, the Mind of the mind--he indeed comprehends fully the Cause of all causes."

Seeing Another Ram Dass

‘When you’re not entrapped by another person’s appearance or behavior, you can see behind all that to a deeper level of their being because your mind has tuned itself; you’ve shifted your focus just that little bit to see their soul. That soul quality is love.’

Rise to the Higher Planes of Consciousness

There is an ocean of nectar within you, which you can drink just by withdrawing your consciousness inside. Burn away the world, push your way into the inner sky and recognize the palace by inner signs. Enshrine the image of the Master in your heart why degrade yourself wandering around?

Erwin Schrodinger

Nirvana is a state of pure blissful knowledge.. It has nothing to do with individual. The ego or its separation is an illusion. The goal of man is to preserve his Karma and to develop it further – when man dies his karma lives and creates for itself another carrier.

George Bernard Shaw

The Indian way of life provides the vision of the natural, real way of life. We veil ourselves with unnatural masks. On the face of India are the tender expressions which carry the mark of the Creators hand.

Aldous Huxley

It is only when we have renounced our preoccupation with "I," "me," "mine," that we can truly possess the world in which we live. Everything, provided that we regard nothing as property. And not only is everything ours; it is also everybody else's

Hinduism

Hinduism does not focus on itself (the religion), rather it focuses on guiding a person to rid himself of all material things (including religion) and reach the Brahman. Hinduism focuses on god/self. It does not focus on religion as an entity. It never tries or wants to spread itself.

Romain Rolland

If there is one place on the face of the earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India....For more than 30 centuries, the tree of vision, with all its thousand branches and their millions of twigs, has sprung from this torrid land, the burning womb of the Gods. It renews itself tirelessly showing no signs of decay.

What is Self Realization?

A mere phrase. People expect some miracle to happen, something to drop from Heaven in a flash. It is nothing of the sort. Only the notion that you are the body, that you are this or that, will go, and you remain as you are. ~Ramana Maharshi

Eckhart Tolle [ Santorini Island Cats]

I have lived with several Zen masters -- all of them cats.

Sivananda Saraswati

Go beyond science, into the region of metaphysics. Real religion is beyond argument. It can only be lived both inwardly and outwardly.

God is all-full. He is self-contained. He is eternal satisfaction

Sivananda Saraswati AO

The real spiritual progress of the aspirant is measured by the extent to which he achieves inner tranquility.

Sivananda Saraswati

Truth can not be suppressed and always is the ultimate victor. Yajur Veda

You must learn to endure fleeting things they come and go! Bhagavad Gita

Strive to move away from untruth towards truth. Atharva Veda

Ramana Maharshi

The truth of oneself alone is worthy to be scrutinized

and known. Taking it as the target of one's attention, one should keenly know it in the Heart. This knowledge of oneself will be revealed only to the consciousness which is silent, clear and free from the activity of the agitated and suffering mind. Know that the consciousness which always shines in the Heart as the formless Self 'I', and which is known by one's being still without thinking about anything as existent or non-existent, alone is the perfect reality.

Huston Smith

“Love is the movement within life that carries us, that enables us, that causes us to break out of what Alan Watts calls the “skin-encapsulated ego.” Without love, we are self-centered, but love enables us to move the center of our lives outside our ego. Therefore it expands our lives and, needless to say, enriches it. Any human being would give anything to love or be loved. When it really happens, it is like heaven on earth.”

Huston Smith

"Never during its pilgrimage is the human spirit completely adrift and alone. From start to finish its nucleus is the Atman, the god-within... underlying its whirlpool of transient feelings, emotions, and delusions is the self-luminous, abiding point of the transpersonal god. As the sun lights the world even when cloud-covered, “the Immutable is never seen but is the Witness; it is never heard but is the Hearer; it is never thought but is the Thinker; it is never known but is the Knower. There is no other witness but This, no other knower but This." from the Upanishad"

Vivekananda

"After every happiness comes misery; they may be far apart or near. The more advanced the soul, the more quickly does one follow the other. What we want is neither happiness nor misery. Both make us forget our true nature; both are chains--one iron, one gold; behind both is the Atman, who knows neither happiness nor misery. These are states, and states must ever change; but the nature of the Atman is bliss, peace, unchanging. We have not to get it, we have it; only wash away the dross and see it."

Joel Goldsmith

"When you make contact with the Spirit of God that is within you, you bring into your experience the divine Power and Presence. The work of The Infinite Way is attaining the conscious awareness of that Presence. When you realize that It is "closer than breathing," you stop the search for It in heaven or in holy mountains, and you begin to rest. In that resting you open out a way for the Spirit to announce Itself and perform Its function,"

Kiran Bhat

"In an ideal world, as connectivity progresses, each human of our world would function the way a cell functions in a human body. We would see each other in the context of our individuality but realise how our individual actions both directly and indirectly affect the greater Earth. It would be as if our Atmans (our individual spirits) could merge into a Brahmin (a cosmic unity)"

Mechthild of Magdeburg

"A fish cannot drown in water,
A bird does not fall in air.
In the fire of creation,
God doesn't vanish:
The fire brightens.
Each creature God made
must live in its own true nature;
How could I resist my nature,
That lives for oneness with God?"

Kiseong Shin

"stated above, the true self of all things in the whole world is atman/Brahman. Human beings do not realize their true self and assume that the material body, including physical body as well as mind, is the true self. That is ignorance (avidya). For Sankara, human predicament is caused by ignorance, not by sin. To be liberated, one must remove the ignorance, confusing one’s true self with something else. To remove the ignorance,"

Y. Keshava Menon

"Brahman is the universal aspect of the Self which needs to be revealed; Atman is the self-revealing essence deep within us. But to the enlightened person, Atman and Brahman are known to be the same. The problem that the mind contains the world and the world contains the mind is solved when this identification is intuitively known."

Geoffrey D. Falk

We are individualized waves of consciousness on the
Infinite Ocean of Spirit; so say the sages.
But, although the Ocean has become the wave, and the wave,
when it dissolves the illusion of ego-separation and limitation,
realizes that it has always been one with the Infinite Ocean,
the form-bound wave itself is not the Ocean.  Nor is the Ocean
merely the sum of its waves -- the Ocean can exist without the
waves, but the waves cannot exist without the Ocean.
Everything you can see, hear, smell, touch, taste, and much more,
is part of this Ocean.  For all matter, energy and consciousness is
merely waves of certain rates of vibration on the surface of the
Ocean of Consciousness; Spirit has become, and is present in and as,
every created thing.  That is, consciousness is the "water" of the
Infinite Ocean of Spirit, and all phenomena arise as modifications of
this one stuff, or ripples on/of this Ocean of
cosmic consciousness.
