By Swami Vivekananda

Compare the writings of great authors to the lives of saints and sages. Scholarly books may not move you deeply, but the actions of a saint can overwhelm you with emotion. We do not love scholars as much as we love saints. Intellect is but one sense, a mechanical instrument of the mind. It functions well in favorable conditions but fails under adversity. Saints, however, possess a heart that radiates light. Just as one burning torch can light thousands of lamps, similarly, the luminous hearts of saints uplift millions of souls.
