Meister Eckhart

 In his commentary on St. John's Gospel, Eckhart says, 'God the Word [i.e., Christ] assumed the nature, not the person of a man.' Human nature is universal, and so is not the property of individual man. Christ therefore became man, not a man. There is therefore a real sense in which man can become Christ, or God.
