This Rumi poem metaphorically describes spiritual enlightenment and the death of the ego as a candle entirely turning into flame. The "annihilating moment" represents the surrender of self, where the soul, like the candle, loses its shadow (ego/darkness) and becomes pure light, finally free from moral dualities.
