 Our higher self is none other than God, a part of God. That is why, on the highest level, we are God himself, for apart from God there is nothing. God manifests himself through creation and through each one of his creatures, and we are therefore tiny particles of him. We have no existence apart from him.

The real illusion is to believe that we are separate from God. When the sages speak of maya, ‘illusion’, they are not speaking of the material world. The world is not a maya. It is our lower self that is the maya because it gives us the impression that we exist as beings separate from the divinity. The world is a reality. So is matter. I repeat: the illusion comes from our lower self, which insists on making us feel we are separate beings.
