Autobiography OF A YOGI

Jagessar Das,

"Life is a progression. We progress from childhood to adulthood, from simplicity to complexity, from ignorance to knowledge, from innocence to wisdom and from birth to death. It is the law of life. But there is also a progression from the external life to the internal, from the hustle and bustle of material life to the serenity and silence of internal life. It is in the latter that we experience the beauty of the Self and its connection with Divinity.

BY GONGA

If world peace is to dawn,,,, it must begin with the individual. The great masters of India have preserved for us the keys to developing our consciousness to its fullest potential. Mankind possesses many latent abilities that today lay dormant within us all. Most of the problems facing modern society are the direct result of humans operating with a fraction of their full potential. The need of our time is to increase the intelligence, awareness and wisdom of the individuals who make up society. The golden age will dawn when the best of the West is combined with the best of the East, when modern science is combined with the ancient wisdom of the evolution of human consciousness

Paul Brunton

When his mind moves entirely and wholly into the One Infinite Presence, and when it settles permanently there, the divided existence of glimpse and darkness, of Spirit and matter, of Overself and ego, of heaven and earth, will vanish. The crossing over to a unified existence will happen.

THOUGHTS ARE AN OPTICAL ILLUSION ROBERT ADAMS

Do not analyze what I am saying. Do not even agree with what I’m saying. Just be open. Open your heart by remaining still, silent. Allow the thoughts to come, do try not to stop them. Do not judge your thoughts, analyze your thoughts, or try to change your thoughts, or try to remove your thoughts. This will put you back in conflict with your thoughts. Do not even observe your thoughts. Do not even be the witness to your thoughts. Why? Because in reality there are no thoughts. The thoughts that you think you’re thinking, are an optical illusion. It is false imagination. Don’t you see? Everything that you’re thinking about is false. There is no thinker and there are no thoughts. So why have you been practicing all these exercises all of your life? It’s like a person in the ocean going in search for water. Awaken. Be free. Be yourself.

A para phrase from the Gita

Know this Atman Know this Atman, unborn, undying. Never ceasing, never beginning. Deathless, birthless, unchanging forever. How can it die the death of the body? Worn out garments are shed by the body. Worn out bodies are shed by the Atma. New bodies are donned like garments. Not wounded by weapons nor burned by fire Not dried by the wind not wetted by water. Such is the Atman. He who dwells within all living bodies remains forever indestructible. Therefore never mourn for anyone. You must be free from the pairs of opposites. Poise you mind in tranquility. Be established in the consciousness of the Atman always. You must not desire for the fruits of your work. Perform every action with your heart fixed on the Supreme Lord. Be even tempered in success and failure. Unite the heart with Brahman, and then act. That is the secret of non attachment

THE TEJOBINDU UPANISHAD ~

(1)Let us meditate on the shining Self,

Changeless, underlying the world of change,

And realized in the heart in samadhi.

(2) Hard to reach is the supreme goal of life,

Hard to describe and hard to abide in.

(3) They alone attain samadhi who have

Mastered their senses and are free from anger,

Free from self-will and from likes and dislikes,

Without selfish bonds to people and things.

(4) They alone attain samadhi who are

Prepared to face challenge after challenge

In the three stages of meditation.

Under an illumined teacher's guidance

They become united with the Lord of Love,

(5-6) Called Vishnu, who is present everywhere.

Though the three gunas emanate from him,

He is infinite and invisible.

Though all the galaxies emerge from him,

He is without form and unconditioned.

To be united with the Lord of Love

Is to be freed from all conditioning.

This is the state of Self-realization,

Far beyond the reach of words and thoughts.

(Translated by Eknath Easwaran in "The Upanishads", pages 283 - 284)

Note:  The "3 "Gunas" (Qualities) are "Sattva" (Purity), "Rajas" (Activity) and "Tamas" (Darkness/destruction). The 3 Gunas (qualities) are present in all objects in various degrees, one is always more present or dominant than the others.

Osho, The Great Pilgrimage: From Here to Here, Chapter 21

Thoughts can create such a barrier that even if you are standing before a beautiful flower, you will not be able to see it. Your eyes are covered with layers of thought. To experience the beauty of the flower you have to be in a state of meditation, not in a state of mentation. You have to be silent, utterly silent, not even a flicker of thought – and the beauty explodes, reaches to you from all directions. You are drowned in the beauty of a sunrise, of a starry night, of beautiful trees.

Swami Sivananda

“If you do not find peace within, you will not find it anywhere else. The Goal of Life is the attainment of Peace and not the achievement of power, name, fame and wealth. Cultivate peace first in the garden of your heart by removing the weeds of lust, hatred, greed, selfishness, and jealousy. Then only you can manifest it externally. Then only, those who come in contact with you, will be benefited by your vibrations of peace and harmony.”

SWAMI DHYAN GITEN

“Enlightenment is not an experience at all, because the experiencer is lost. The “I”, the ego is lost. Enlightenment is more like an experiencing. It is a process. It begins, but it never ends. You enter it, but you can never possess it. It is a deep merging and melting with Existence. It is a oneness. It is like a drop dropping into the Ocean.”
