~ James Baldwin, Nothing Personal

“One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light. It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light.”

Yogananda

Alan Watts

Life exists only at this very moment, and in this moment it is infinite and eternal, for the present moment is infinitely small; before we can measure it, it has gone, and yet it exists forever.

Energy

Our energy and God's energy are the same, ever coming out of the void. We are all beautiful children of God. Each day we should try to see the life energy in trees, birds, animals and people. When we do, we are seeing God in action. The Vedas affirm, "He who knows God as the Life of life, the Eye of the eye, the Ear of the ear, the Mind of the mind--he indeed comprehends fully the Cause of all causes."

The Doctrine of the Upanishads by Swami Krishnananda

Ishvara is the Soul of the universe, the Cosmic Self, the Cosmic Mind, who is the efficient and material cause of the individual minds; the individual has no independent existence apart from Ishvara; God includes in himself both mind and matter. Brahman (the Absolute) is Ishvara divested of cosmic relations, and Ishvara is Brahman in relation to the cosmos"

Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa

"Those who are established in wisdom (sthita-prajna) live in continuous, unbroken awareness that they are not the perishable body but the Atman. Further, they see the same Self in everyone, for the Atman is universally present in all. Such a one, Krishna says, does not identify with personal desires. These desires are on the surface of personality, and the Self is its very core. The Self-realized man or woman is not motivated by personal desires – in other words, by any desire for kama, personal satisfaction."

Osho

Love Yourself, so that all your loving sources become open, all blocks are removed. And if you can love yourself —with all your frailties, with all your weaknesses, with all your errors— you can love anybody in the world. You will have tremendous compassion and understanding. Because you commit the same mistakes; the same are your errors, the same are your frailties.

The Concept of Atman or Eternal Soul in Hinduism

Atman, meaning the breathing one, or the individual Self is one of the most important concepts of Hinduism. It is central to the theme of the Upanishads and the entire Vedic conception of creation and existence.Atman is the immortal aspect of our mortal existence, the individual Self, which is hidden in every object of creation including humans.

Teresa of Avila

“Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul.” “Do not dismayed, at the number of things which you have to consider before setting out on this divine journey, which is the royal road to heaven. By taking this road we gain such precious treasures that it is no wonder if the cost seems to us a high one. The time will come when we shall realize that all we have paid has been nothing at all by comparison with the greatness of our prizes.”’“It is love alone that gives worth to all things.”

Ramakrishna

Only two kinds of people can attain self-knowledge: those who are not encumbered at all with learning, that is to say, whose minds are not over-crowded with thoughts borrowed from others; and those who, after studying all the scriptures and sciences, have come to realise that they know nothing.

Robert Adams

Don't let the mind become your master.
Trust in the Current that knows the way. We keep searching outside for answers that lie within. They can only be known in the Silence.

Sri Gawn Tu Fahr

All religions serve a purpose and vary in their teachings. They are all paths, but alas, they are constructs of the mind, destined to perish. Divine Love, the source of all life, resides in every heart, far beyond religion, philosophy, metaphysics, science, art, and the mind itself.

MEANING OF THE PHRASE “ATMAN-BRAHMAN”

The Upanishads proclaim that "Atman is Brahman." Atman refers to the ‘individual soul’ of all living things and that which is immortal, unlike the body. Brahman is the supreme soul or the ‘cosmic soul,’ the life source of all that exists in the universe. So, the phrase "Atman is Brahman" wonderfully implies that the individual soul – you and me – are part of the cosmic soul. This is also the basis of Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay entitled ‘Over-Soul’ (1841) and other similar Transcendental writings in Western Literature.

DR. RADHAKRISHNAN

"Hinduism is not just a faith. It is the union of reason and intuition that cannot be defined but is only to be experienced. Evil and error are not ultimate. There is no Hell, for that means there is a place where God is not, and there are sins which exceed his love."

"Hinduism is wholly free from the strange obsession of some faiths that the acceptance of a particular religious metaphysics is necessary for salvation, and non-acceptance thereof is a heinous sin meriting eternal punishment in hell.

This extraordinary Power, mystic though I have rightly called it, is nevertheless very real, no mere imaginary abstraction, but actually the most practical thing there is. The existence of this Power is already well known to thousands of people in the world today, and has been known to certain enlightened souls for tens of thousands of years. This Power is really no less than the primal Power of Being, and to discover that Power is the Divine birthright of all men. It is your right and your privilege to make your contact with this Power, and to allow it to work through your body, mind, and estate, so that you need no longer grovel upon the ground amid limitations and difficulties, but can soar up on wings like an eagle to the realm of dominion and joy.

Epictetus

Sickness is a difficulty to the body, but not to the mind – unless you let it. Lameness is a difficulty to the leg, but not to the mind. Say this to yourself with regard to everything that happens, then you will see nothing as a difficulty to your true self.

Jim Dreaver, The Way of Harmony

The core insight involves a subtle shift in the way you see yourself and your life. It is a stepping back, so to speak, and beginning to see that you are not the person you thought you were. Specifically, you are not your "story." The reality you've created inside your head about who you are--your beliefs, personal history, attitudes, identity, and self-image--is not who you are. This internal reality is actually nothing more than a tale you've been telling yourself, probably for most of your life. It's a fiction, a myth, created out of memory and belief, reinforced through the opinions and judgments of others, and clung to mainly through ignorance and habit.

Nisargadatta Maharai

Truth is not a reward for good behavior, nor a prize for passing some tests. It cannot be brought about.

Truth is the primary, the unborn, the ancient source of all that is. You are eligible because you are.

You need not merit truth. It is your own. Just stop running away by running after. Stand still, be quiet

“Music shouldn’t be just a tune, it should be a touch.”

Rumi

I am the ball of the sun I am the mist of morning, the breath of evening I am the spark in the stone, the gleam of gold in the metal The rose and the nightingale drunk with its fragrance. I am the chain of being, the circle of the spheres, The scale of creation, the rise and the fall. I am what is and is not I am the soul in all.
