Mundaka Upanishad.

 Knowledge.

All knowledge is twofold. Lower and higher.
All lower knowledge comes through the senses, that which can be heard, seen, smelt, tasted and felt. All this kind of knowledge is food for the ego and will lead you outside of yourself.
If you want to go outside of yourself then this knowledge is good.
If it is knowledge of your Self that you seek then turn your back toward lower knowledge because sense knowledge will bring you back to face death time and time again.
Higher knowledge is beyond the chattering monkey mind that is bound to the sense objects of the world.
This higher knowledge is gained by meditation only, by going inward beyond the mind to the silence of Self knowledge and by so doing, overcoming the mind of sense attraction.
By all means light a lamp and incense to the Mother, Father or guru and chant a name but do not rely on this alone, go beyond mind and seek your Self in meditation.
~
Those who are pure in heart, who practice meditation and conquer their senses and passions, shall attain the immortal Self, source of all light and source of all life.
