The Udhānavarga (‘Buddha's inspiring words’) is an early Buddhist collection of topically organised chapters. Udhana means "utterance" and is said to be Buddha's spontaneous utterance as a result of his inspiration ("no-question-asked", meaning that he spoke on his own, even though he was not asked). Varga means 'gathering'.
